Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust (BKATS)
Introduction:
RWB Building Solutions were appointed by a Multi-Academy Trust to deliver a programme of fire safety improvement works across three separate school estates. The works formed part of the Trust’s wider commitment to enhancing life safety compliance and ensuring all buildings meet current fire safety regulations, while minimising disruption to staff and pupils. Given the live educational environments and the need to complete works during school holidays, careful planning, coordination, and specialist installation were critical to the success of the project.
Project Challenges
The primary challenge was delivering fully compliant fire safety upgrades across multiple occupied school sites within very limited timeframes. All works needed to be completed during school half-term breaks to avoid disruption, while ensuring consistency of quality and compliance across three separate schools. In addition, the Trust required full assurance that all fire doors installed were third-party certified, correctly detailed, and installed in accordance with current legislation and manufacturer guidance.
The Process
A carefully planned and phased programme of works was developed to align with the October 2024 and February 2025 half-term periods. Pre-installation surveys were undertaken across all estates to confirm door schedules, opening sizes, and interface details. All fire doors were supplied by a BM TRADA certified manufacturer, providing full traceability and third-party accreditation. Experienced installation teams were deployed to each site, ensuring doors and fire-rated screens were fitted in strict accordance with tested specifications, including compliant ironmongery and tolerances. Regular coordination with the Trust’s estates team ensured clear communication, rapid issue resolution, and smooth handover following each phase of works.
The Results
All works were completed within the allocated half-term windows, meeting programme requirements and the Trust’s compliance objectives. Following the successful delivery of this project, RWB Fire Door Solutions are now continuing to work in partnership with the Trust on further fire door safety projects. The project demonstrates RWB Fire Door Solutions’ ability to deliver specialist fire safety works within the education sector, combining technical expertise, careful planning, and a consistently high standard of workmanship.
“RWB Fire Door Solutions recently completed a programme of fire door replacement works across three of our schools during the October 2024 and February 2025 half term periods. The works included the installation of 9 fire doors at Holy Family, 12 fire doors and associated glazed screens at St Austin’s, and 10 fire doors along with 2 screens at St Joseph’s. From initial planning through to completion, RWB demonstrated professionalism, technical knowledge and a clear understanding of working within live educational environments. All works were carefully programmed around school holidays, ensuring minimal disruption to staff and pupils, and were delivered on time and to a high standard. The quality of installation, attention to detail and compliance documentation provided gave us confidence that the doors meet the required fire safety standards and regulatory expectations. As a result of the positive experience and standard of workmanship, we have continued to engage RWB Fire Door Solutions for ad-hoc fire door and emergency exit door works across our wider school estate. I would have no hesitation in recommending RWB Fire Door Solutions to other trusts or organisations seeking a competent and reliable fire door contractor. ”
