Tadcaster Grammar School

Introduction:

Following a fire door survey conducted by a national company, RWB Fire Door Solutions provided a competitive quote to replace fire doors across the 1,200-pupil campus at Tadcaster Grammar School. The project aimed to enhance fire safety while maintaining the smooth operation of the school.

Project Challenges

The scale and operation of the school presented several challenges:

• The campus houses over 1,200 students, so minimizing disruption to teaching was critical.
• Coordinating the installation of fire doors across a large site required careful planning and scheduling.
• Ensuring full traceability and certification of doors and components was essential for compliance and safety.
  

The Process

RWB Fire Door Solutions implemented a carefully planned, phased approach:

• A rolling program of fire door installations was developed in collaboration with the school. Phase 1 began during the October 2023 half term and continued into the following week. To minimize disruption, the installation and decorative teams worked out of hours.
• Fire doors were sourced from a local BM Trada accredited manufacturer, with ironmongery input from a member of the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI), ensuring complete traceability and certification of the supply chain.
• Detailed records of installation were captured using Bolster Systems Software, providing a comprehensive and auditable record for the school.
  

The Results

Phase 1 of the fire door replacement program was successfully completed, achieving key outcomes:

• Fire doors were installed across the campus with minimal disruption to teaching and daily school operations.
• Full traceability and certification of doors and ironmongery ensured compliance with fire safety standards.
• Detailed installation records provided the school with complete oversight and documentation for safety audits.
• Following the success of phase 1, RWB Fire Door Solutions continues to work with the school to deliver the remaining phases and expand fire door solutions across the wider trust estate.
